Academic Success Program
Professor Jennifer Carr
Director of the Academic Success Program
Assistant Director of the Academic Success Program
Boyd prides itself on providing a rich and stimulating academic environment which serves as the catalyst for the development of critical legal thinking. To hone these necessary skills, the Academic Success Program conducts a comprehensive network of presentations, activities, tutorials, and workshops designed to stimulate learning and amplify the classroom experience. The Academic Success Program supplements the required curriculum with a host of opportunities for students to enhance learning skills and develop more efficient methods of studying, comprehending, and writing in the law school environment.
The Academic Success Program assists students in removing barriers to academic success. This includes reviewing past exams, giving sample exams or hypotheticals, evaluating study habits, assisting with time and stress management issues, and helping evaluate student learning style.
Individual academic counseling is available for those students seeking personalized assistance in any subject area. Assistance is also available for alums preparing for the bar exam. Individual meetings allow students to identify their academic strengths and weakness, and develop individually tailored study programs and techniques. Additionally, all students have access to the Case Resource Center containing study supplements, sample examinations, and materials on study skills, learning theories, and learning styles.
To meet student needs at every level, the Academic Success Program tailors offerings to first year students developing new habits, upper-level students perfecting skills, and recent graduates studying for the bar exam. Additionally, the program offers specialized workshops for part-time and non-traditional students to ease the transition into law school.|
CASE: The Center for Academic Success and Enrichment (CASE) is the peer-to-peer component of the law school's Academic Success Program. CASE mentors are available to provide one-to-one assistance to students.
To make an appointment with a CASE Mentor, send an e-mail to email@example.com.
Skills Workshops: Additionally, the Academic Success Program routinely offers skills workshops to all interested students, detailing essential law school skills such as note-taking, briefing cases, outlining and exam-taking techniques. Workshops on handling stress and managing time effectively are also offered. All students are encouraged to attend. For a list of upcoming workshops, click here.
One-on-One Assistance: Individualized academic counseling is also available for those students seeking personalized assistance in any subject area. Assistance is also available for alums preparing for the bar examination. Individual meetings allow students to identify their academic strengths and weakness, as well as their learning styles. This allows students to develop personally tailored study schedules.
