8th Annual Colloquium on Current Scholarship in Labor and Employment Law
The UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law is pleased to announce that it will host the 8th Annual Colloquium on Current Scholarship in Labor and Employment Law on September 27 and 28, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Colloquium provides an opportunity for labor and employment law scholars to present works-in-progress and receive feedback from their colleagues in the field. Website

Association of Academic Support Educators Conference
The 2013 AASE Annual Conference will be held Tuesday, May 28 through Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law in Las Vegas, Nevada. The conference will start with an evening reception on May 28 at the Bluegreen Club 36 Resort (see contact information provided under "Hotel Reservations") and end after lunch on May 30 at the Boyd School of Law. Conference on Psychology and Lawyering: Coalescing the Field
The Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution at the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law will host a conference on Psychology and Lawyering: Coalescing the Field on February 21 and 22, 2014 in Las Vegas Nevada. The goal in hosting this conference is to bring together a broad range of academics in both law and psychology to focus on the many insights empirical psychological research can provide to law students and practicing attorneys. Juvenile Justice Conference
Professor David S. Tanenhaus - together with Frank Zimring, William G. Simon Professor of Law and Wolfen Distinguished Scholar at the UC Berkeley School of Law - hosted the two-day conference April 12-13, 2013 on five important reform issues that are relatively novel to traditional juvenile justice, yet must be addressed by policymakers in the near future. The 11th Annual Rocky Mountain Legal Writing Conference was held on March 25 & 26, 2011 at the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law in Las Vegas, Nevada. Website

Association for the Study of Law, Culture, & the Humanities 14th Annual Conference
The UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law hosted the Association for the Study of Law, Culture & the Humanities 14th Annual Conference from March 11-12, 2011. The Association brings together more than 275 interdisciplinary scholars from around the world each year to discuss law and legal issues from a broad perspective. Scholars attended the meeting at UNLV from Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand and Sweden. The theme of this year's conference, drawing on the work of Nan Seuffert of the University of Waikato, was "Boundaries and Enemies." Website

Multidimensional Masculinities and Law: A Colloquium
The UNLV Willliam S. Boyd School of Law hosted this Colloquium from Feb. 18-19, 2011. The Colloquium, co-sponsored by Suffolk University Law School, celebrated a new and exciting edited collection, Masculinites and Law: A Multidimensional Approach, edited by Frank Rudy Cooper and Ann C. McGinley. The collection will be published by New York University Press in 2011. The Colloquium also considers the future direction of the field of Masculinities and Law.Website

Contracts Conference - February 26-27, 2010
This annual event brings together scholars who teach and work in the areas of contract law and practice, for two days of panels and scholarly presentations. The Conference is unique in the breadth of its coverage of contract-related issues and its mix of senior and junior scholars. One of its chief goals is to foster and encourage dialogue and relationships among scholars at all levels, and to bring together those whose work comes from different perspectives. Website  

Conflict Resolution and the Economic Crisis - February 12-13, 2010
The Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution at the Boyd School of Law, UNLV, together with a consortium of local practitioners, is putting together a conference for February 12-13, 2010 that is tentatively entitled: "The Economic Crisis and Conflict Resolution" Our goal is to bring together people who have great ideas for how to use conflict resolution tools to deal with aspects of our ongoing economic crisis. Some likely topics would include foreclosure and bankruptcy mediation. We are also looking for speakers on other subjects relating to the crisis, e.g. how to use conflict resolution tools to deal with layoffs, how to design dispute resolution systems when money is short, or how to use dispute resolution to help with new living arrangements. This list is not meant to be an exclusive, but rather to spark your creative juices. Website

PUBLIC/PRIVATE INTERNATIONAL LAW COLLOQUIUM - SEPTEMBER 19-21, 2008
The Public/Private International Law Colloquium brought together more than thirty legal scholars to discuss issues in public/private international law. The invitation-only list of participants included scholars of diverse experiences and perspectives from American University, Arizona State University, Brown University, California Western School of Law, Cornell University, Case Western Reserve University, Duke University, Georgetown University, Hofstra University, Indiana University-Bloomington, Pennsylvania State University, the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, Davis, the University of California Hastings College of the Law, the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, the University of the Pacific (McGeorge School of Law), the University of Toronto, the University of Tulsa, the University of Virginia, Washington and Lee University, Washington University (St. Louis) and the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV. This discussion had implications for a broad range of legal subjects including, but not limited to, arbitration, business law and business courses of all types, conflicts of law, criminal law and procedure, critical race theory, critical legal studies, dispute resolution, environmental law, family law, human rights, human trafficking, intellectual property, law and economics, law and sociology, multiculturalism, national security, property rights, and tax law. Addressing these issues will indicate and help shape the directions in which international law and related scholarship are evolving. Website

The 10th Annual Trina Grillo Public Interest and Social Justice Law Retreat will be held at the Boyd School of Law, UNLV on Friday, March 7th and Saturday, March 8th. The title of this year’s retreat is Communities Building Social Justice. This year’s retreat will focus on how to create and strengthen institutions promoting social justice in cities, towns, and regions where the social justice infrastructure is less developed. The retreat will also be useful for anyone interested in building the skills and vision to start new projects, promote social justice in private practice, or improve existing social justice organizations at any point in their careers. Collaboration and the Colorado River - On October 12, 2007, leading scholars and practitioners in the fields of dispute resolution, environmental law, water law and land use discussed the extent to which collaborative approaches are and should be used to resolve issues relating to the Colorado River and its surroundings. Pat Mulroy, General Manager of the Las Vegas Valley Water District, spoke at the conference luncheon. Click here to see the conference program.

The Rocky Mountain Legal Writing Conference is an annual event coordinated by the legal writing faculty at several law schools in the West. This gathering of legal writing professors has proved to be a valuable professional development experience.

LatCrit XI Annual Conference
William S. Boyd School of Law hosted two important conferences the weekend of October 6-7. Both focused on the topic of immigration. Over 150 professors from all over the world descended on the UNLV campus for the LatCrit XI annual conference, titled Working and Living in the Global Playground: Frontstage and Backstage. LatCrit academics researched issues of social justice, globalization, poverty, race, gender and sexual orientation. Representing Children in Families
On January 12-14, 2006, nearly 100 lawyers, youth advocates, professors, judges and mental health professionals convened at the William S. Boyd School of Law, UNLV to explore the opportunities and challenges of providing legal representation to children while accounting for their deep connections to families and communities.
